Weekend Recap for Eastern Arizona Athletics

Easter Arizona College volleyball and soccer programs hosted top teams in the nation over this past weekend.

 

Eastern Arizona College volleyball hosted NJCAA #16 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors on Friday, September 29th. The Lady Monsters took an early lead in the first set until the Lady Matadors came back to take the set 25-21. EAC managed to keep the next two sets close but fell in the final set with a kill by the Matadors ending in a 25-23 win to the Lady Matadors.

Volleyball takes to the road on Wednesday, October 4th to play Mesa at 7pm.

 

 

Women's Soccer hosted Phoenix College on Saturday, September 30th. Phoenix College is ranked NJCAA #2 for DII and won nationals in 2022. The Lady Monsters took an early goal off the Bears in the first half when Celiane Pereira found the back of the net with an assist by Marli Sanford. The Lady Monsters held the line on the Bears until almost the 54th minute when a handball in the box allowed for a free kick to the Bears. The Lady Monsters held strong both offensively and defensively keeping the Bears to a 1-2 victory. Ashley Zaragoza-Lopez had 8 saves.

 

The Lady Monsters will play at home on Saturday, October 7th when they host Yavapai College at 4:30 pm. Theme: Pink Out

 

Men's Soccer also hosted Phoenix College on Saturday, September 30th. Phoenix Men's Soccer is also ranked #2 for NJCAA DII. The Monsters kept the game at a deadlock until 5 minutes left in the first half the Bears walked in free to toe in a rebound off the Monster's keeper. In the second half, Phoenix College scored quickly again off a corner kick. The final goal for Phoenix came from a foul in the midfield. The Monsters held Phoenix 0-3 but were unable to find any in the back of the net.

 

Men's Soccer plays again on Saturday, October 7th when they host Yavapai College at home at 7 p.m. Theme: Pink Out
