Weekend Results from Monster Athletics

Monster Athletics had a standout weekend, showcasing impressive performances in baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball.

Baseball: Double Header Success

Monster's baseball team opened the weekend with a solid 8-3 win against Luna CC in Game 1, followed by a commanding 10-0 victory in 5 innings in Game 2. Miles Vandenheuvel and Dominick Palma stood out with key hits and steals, while Jacob Marshall's pitching dominance secured the shutout.

"Overall I was pleased with how our first 2 games went. We only batted for a total of 10 innings in the 2 games… and we had 19 hits, stole 7 bases, and scored 18 runs. On defense we played errorless baseball. And our pitching staff only allowed 5 hits total and struck out 17 batters." says Coach Kimball.

Saturday's highlights included a comeback win in Game 1, courtesy of Julius Ryan's game-winning hit. Game 2 featured Jalen Ryan's perfect 3-3 at-bat and Tripp Schroeder's 2-3 performance with 4 RBIs. A no-hitter by Adrien Marquez, Robert Lopez, and Sloan Robertson added to the success.

"I thought this was a nice start to the season for us. We got a lot of guys into these 4 games. We outscored them 32-6 on the weekend... but I liked the fact we had to come from behind to win the first game on Saturday. We showed a little resolve... and it's always fun to get a walk-off win."

Softball: Ups and Downs

Monster's softball team faced tough competition at the CSN Invitational, securing wins against Trinidad State (16-6) and College of Southern Idaho (5-1). Despite setbacks against Snow College (7-6) and Salt Lake (9-1), Coach Aguirre expressed excitement for the upcoming season.

Coach Aguirre said "An exciting weekend at the CSN Invitational. Some areas to improve, but the girls played with passion and had fun. We are excited to get started."

Basketball Triumphs: Hardwood Victories

Monster's basketball teams secured victories against Scottsdale Community College on Saturday, January 27th.

Men's basketball clinched a 72-65 victory, with Akok Machar contributing 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Noah Ogoli providing 8 assists.

In a thrilling overtime victory, the women's basketball team secured a 73-67 win. Elva Chavez led the charge with an impressive 20 points, while Ashlynn Chlarson dominated the boards with 12 rebounds, and Vitoria Santana contributed with 4 assists.

Looking Ahead: All four Monster teams gear up for another weekend of action. Basketball faces Cochise College, while baseball heads to Phoenix College, and softball competes in the Arizona Western Shootout Tournament. Let's Go Monsters!
