2-3-24 Weekend Results

Eastern Arizona College had an eventful weekend in sports. Rain forced the cancellation of the baseball game against Phoenix College. The softball team traveled to Yuma, Arizona, for the Western Shootout Tournament. Meanwhile, the basketball teams hosted Cochise College for a two-day conference matchup at home.

 

Softball engaged in an intense three-game series spanning two days at the Western Shootout. On day one, the first game unfolded against the College of Southern Idaho with a final score of 1-9. The second game on the same day proved to be a close encounter against Snow, ultimately resulting in a 6-9 score. Coach Aguirre expressed satisfaction, stating, "This tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for all our athletes to showcase their skills."

 

 

In the third game, the scores were noteworthy, but the Monsters ultimately fell short against SLCC with a final score of 8-19. Looking ahead, softball anticipates playing at home on February 10th for their home opener against South Mountain, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 pm.

 

The Men's and Women's basketball teams delivered two thrilling nights on their home court, facing off against Cochise College.

 

On Friday night, the teams engaged in a close match that concluded with a final score of 57-62 in favor of Cochise. Vitoria Santana contributed significantly with 16 points, while Ashlynn Chlarson secured 7 rebounds, and Sarah Deng recorded 4 assists and 15 points.

 

Saturday night witnessed the Lady Monsters putting up a strong fight, although they fell short with a final score of 56-58 against Cochise. Elva Chavez had an impressive performance, scoring 19 points, supported by Vitoria Santana's 5 assists and Gracie Sorensen's 8 rebounds.

 

Looking ahead, the Lady Monsters are set to hit the road for an upcoming match against Central Arizona College this weekend.

 

The Men's Basketball team had a weekend of mixed outcomes against Cochise, securing a victory on Friday night with a score of 83-76, followed by a double-overtime loss on Saturday, concluding with a final score of 89-87. Raysean Seamster emerged as a standout player, amassing an impressive 53 points over the two games. Lee Rickwood-Pitt contributed significantly with 17 rebounds, while Noah Ogoli showcased his playmaking skills with crucial assists.

 

Despite the varied outcomes, the teams displayed resilience and featured notable individual performances during intense matchups.

 

Men's and Women's basketball will return home on February 16th as they host Yavapai. Go Monsters!
