A Busy Weekend in Sports

Eastern Arizona College Athletics had a jam-packed weekend, with thrilling matchups across multiple sports.

In softball action, the Lady Monsters faced off against Chandler-Gilbert in a doubleheader. Despite weather challenges prompting a facility change, the team emerged victorious with impressive wins of 19-6 and 12-3. Standout performances from players like Sophomore Mariah Cunningham 3 runs, Sophomore Braelynn Kaulu ChoyFoo with a homerun, and Freshman Jaylenn Jurado's 3 runs fueled the team's success. Looking ahead, the softball team is gearing up for another showdown as they hit the road to take on Gateway Community College on March 5th.

Meanwhile, the baseball team faced tough competition against Yavapai, battling it out in Prescott, AZ. Despite valiant efforts, the Monsters fell short in back-to-back defeats. Coach Kimball expressed disappointment at the missed opportunities, "These games were a tough pill to swallow because we should've won both games." In the first game the monsters had leads of 2-0, 6-3 and they led 10-9 late in the game. "It was a tough day for pitching because the wind was blowing out. We need to find ways to hold on to those leads." The team is determined to bounce back as they prepare to face Mesa Community College on March 5th.

On the hardwood, women's basketball secured the ACCAC DI Conference Championship title with an emphatic 82-51 victory over Chandler-Gilbert. Led by stellar performances from Sophomores Vitoria Santana 20pts, Elva Chavez 15pts, Laini Dahlin 15pts, and Freshman Ashlynn Chlarson, the Lady Monsters dominated the court. The team has their sights set on regional playoffs hosted by EAC on March 12.

In a nail-biting finish, men's basketball clinched a thrilling overtime victory with Dallon Morgan's buzzer-beating 3-pointer, sealing a 79-77 win.

As the regular season winds down, both men's and women's basketball teams are gearing up for their final regular season games against Pima Aztecs on March 4th. Sophomore Night festivities will honor the contributions of graduating players.
