EAC Sweeps Benedictine

Game 1

Gila Monsters defeated Benedictine Red Hawks JV 6-2 on Monday.

Benedictine Red Hawks JV opened up scoring in the first inning, when #40 singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Gila Monsters knotted the game up at one in the top of the second inning, when Trey Garza's sac fly scored one run for Gila Monsters.

After Gila Monsters scored one run in the top of the fifth, Benedictine Red Hawks JV answered with one of their own.  Gila Monsters scored when Gustavo Soto singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Gila Monsters pulled away for good with one run in the third inning.  In the third Devin Alvarez singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Issac Silva took the win for Gila Monsters. Silva went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six.  Eduardo Torres threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Soto went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Gila Monsters in hits.

GAME 2


Diego Alvarez threw a shutout to lead Gila Monsters past Benedictine Red Hawks JV 13-0 on Monday.

Gila Monsters fired up the offense in the first inning, when Khalil Walker grounded out, scoring one run.

Gila Monsters put up four runs in the seventh inning.  The big inning was thanks to doubles by Trey Garza and Jonas Rogers.

Alvarez got the start for Gila Monsters. The hurler surrendered zero runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Gila Monsters totaled 14 hits in the game. Julius Ryan, Trey Garza, Jonas Rogers, Ryan Ray, and Devin Alvarez each managed multiple hits for Gila Monsters. Garza and Ryan each collected three hits to lead Gila Monsters. Gila Monsters were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
