Baseball Split Two Against Utah State Eastern

Game 1

Gila Monsters defeated Utah State University Eastern 2023 1-0 on Friday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Aaron Powell induced a fly out from Davis Kirby to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Gila Monsters pitchers struck out six, while Utah State University Eastern 2023 pitchers sat down six.

A single by Kirby in the first inning was a positive for Utah State University Eastern 2023.

Powell was credited with the victory for Gila Monsters. Powell surrendered zero runs on one hit over one inning, walking one.

Ky Decker started the game for Utah State University Eastern 2023. The hurler went five and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out five.  Troy Connell threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Braden Gluth started the game for Gila Monsters. Gluth went six innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out six

Devin Alvarez, Trey Garza, Gustavo Soto, and Junior Lopez each collected one hit to lead Gila Monsters.

Game 2:

Gila Monsters stayed in it until the end, but Utah State University Eastern 2023 pulled away late in a 5-1 victory on Friday.  The game was tied at one with Utah State University Eastern 2023 batting in the top of the fifth when Ty Barker singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Utah State University Eastern 2023 got on the board in the second inning when Braydon Schiess's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Utah State University Eastern 2023.

Gila Monsters evened things up at one in the bottom of the third inning when Khalil Walker singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Dylan Hawkes was the winning pitcher for Utah State University Eastern 2023. Hawkes surrendered one run on four hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking one.  Micah Del Rio threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Schiess took the loss for Gila Monsters. Schiess lasted four and a third innings, allowing three hits and five runs while striking out eight.

Walker went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Gila Monsters in hits.
