2024 NJCAA Men's Basketball All-Star Roster Announced
LAS VEGAS, NV - The NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association announced the 2024 All-Star selections on Thursday afternoon with 27 players appointed to this year's roster.
In attendance at this year's event will be two of the Division's Players of the Year – Amar Augillard of Triton (DI) and Jemel Jones of South Suburban (DII).
Augillard averaged 22.7 points and broke the single season scoring record at Triton with 841 points. He shot 51.4% from the field while shooting 42.4% from three and 83% from the free throw line.
Jones, while being named DII Player of the Year, was also named MVP of 2024 Midwest District-A Tournament and named to NJCAA Division II National Tournament All-Tournament Team. He averaged 33.6 points per game, the most NJCAA Division II.
This year's event had 13 Division I players, nine Division II players, five Division III players fill up the two rosters. Players will be selected by the coaches and separated into teams at a later date.
Some of the Division I All-American selections include Tyson Oghene (Allegany), Alexis Marmolejos (Arizona Western), Mozae Downing-Rivers (Barton), and Myles Thompson (Barton). Oghene broke the 1,000-point mark for his college career this season while averaging 20.2 points per game. Marmolejos was ACCAC DI Player of the Year, while Thompson was All-KJCCC First Team, and Downing-Rivers averaged 5.7 assists along with a 3.0 assist to turnover ratio this season.
Sheldon Williams (Coastal Alabama South), Raysean Seamster (Eastern Arizona), Hassan Perkins (Hagerstown), and Joey Madimba (Howard) were other Division I All-American selections. Williams averaged 17.6 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Seamster finished with 22.4 points and 14.6 rebounds per game. Perkins of Hagerstown went for 16 points a game and 1.4 steals, as Madimba of Howard averaged 23 points for the season.
The final Division I All-Stars include Trevion LaBeaux (Indian Hills), Tekao Carpenter (Moberly Area), Bear Cherry (New Mexico), Malique Ewin (South Plains). LaBeaux was ICCAC Player of the Year and averaged 13.3 points a game. As for Carpenter, he was named First Team All-Region 16 and First Team All-MCCAC. Cherry was back-to-back WJCAC dating back to last season, and Ewin was WJCAC Newcomer of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Player of the Year.
Six Division II First Team All-Americans join the 2024 list: Jemel Jones (South Suburban), Jabryn Anderson (Parkland), Nakavieon White (National Park), Shelton Williams-Dryden (Milwaukee Area), Andrew Mills (Howard), and Manny Montgomery (Dakota County Tech).
Montgomery averaged 28.1 points on the year, Anderson was awarded Region 24 Player of the Year, and White is the current back-to-back Region 2 Player of the Year. Williams-Dryden averaged 19.6 points a game, and Mills finished the year with an average of 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
Second Team All-Americans from Division II include Mehki Ellison (Mott) and Sam West (Indian Hills). Ellison was First Team All-Conference and All-Region 12 while averaging 27.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. As for Sam West, the Iowa Lakes product averaged 15.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists a game.
The lone Division II Third Team All-American to be selected as an All-Star is Chris Flippin (Highland). While averaging 17.2 points a game, he was also named Region 6 MVP and to Region 6 All-Tournament Team.
For Division III Arthur Dukes (LaGuardia) and Darnell Askew (Brookdale) were First Team All-Americans to make the cut. Dukes led the entire NJCAA DIII in scoring at 30.9 points a game and was Region 15 Player of the Year. Askew averaged a double-double with 18.4 points and 10 rebounds per contest. He also led DIII in field goal percentage at 65.8%.
The two Second Team All-Americans included Jasir Tremble (Prince George's) and Taven Washington (Dallas-Richland). Tremble has over 1,000 career points, was named First Team All-Region, and was also awarded Region Championship MVP. Washington was First Team All-Region and Region 5 Player of the Year as he averaged 19.1 points a game.
Another selection towards the All-Stars' roster is Division III Third Team All-American, Nick Boyce (Herkimer). The Herkimer product was First Team All-Region while averaging 12.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.3 steals on the year.
The coaches of this year's teams will be all three NJCAA national championship coaches –Jeremy Coombs of Barton, Dillon Hargrove of National Park and Josh Mills of Dallas-North Lake.
This is the 14th NJCAA Men's Basketball All-Star Game dating back to 2009. The event will take place at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday, May 18, game time at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
Notable participants of past All-Star Games include Chris Duarte (Northwest Florida State) now with the Sacramento Kings, Chris Boucher (Northwest) now with the Toronto Raptors, 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Alondes Williams (Triton) and 2021 Summit League Player of the Year Douglas Wilson (Kirkwood).
