Eastern Arizona Soccer: Mixed Results in Nevada, Homecoming Showdowns Next

The Eastern Arizona College men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Las Vegas, NV, on Tuesday, September 17, to take on the College of Southern Nevada. While the day saw mixed results, both teams now turn their focus to homecoming matchups against Mohave Community College on Saturday, September 21.

Men's Soccer: Tough Defeat


The men's team took the field first in the afternoon, facing a challenging match against the Coyotes. Despite their efforts, Eastern Arizona fell short, losing 0-4.

Sophomore goalkeeper Guilherme Palacio made six crucial saves to keep the score low. Freshman forward Shunto Shimizu gave a strong offensive effort, registering three shots on goal, though Southern Nevada's defense held firm.

Women's Soccer: Dominant Victory


In the later game, the Eastern Arizona women's soccer team shone brightly, securing a 6-1 victory over Southern Nevada. The team displayed a balanced offensive attack, with goals coming from multiple players.

Sophomore Nao Yasuda found the back of the net, along with Maddie Haslam, who added two assists. Fellow Sophomores Kylee Holt and Maria Dantas Coelho each scored, while Freshman Kayme Smith rounded out the scoring with a goal.

On defense, the Gila Monsters were equally strong. Goalkeeper Margaret Vietti made two saves, and Sophomore Ashley Zaragoza-Lopez added another crucial stop to ensure the win.

 

Looking Ahead: Homecoming Matches


Both the men's and women's teams return home for their next contests, as they prepare to face Mohave Community College during Eastern Arizona's homecoming games on Saturday, September 21. The men's team will kick off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the women's team at 7 p.m. Go Monsters!
