
Monsters Face Cochise in Thrilling Matchups, Split Results
Eastern Arizona College basketball teams traveled to Douglas, Arizona, on Wednesday, January 22, for back-to-back battles against conference rival Cochise College. The night delivered excitement for fans, with the women's team fighting down to the wire and the men's team securing a victory.
The women's game tipped off at 5:30 p.m., and the Lady Monsters came out strong, leading 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. They maintained their momentum throughout the second and third quarters. However, the game reached a nail-biting finish as Cochise College tied the score 51-51 in the final seconds. A decisive three-pointer by Cochise sealed the game, handing the Lady Monsters a tough 54-51 loss.
Freshman Eanae Dagons stood out with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Fellow freshman Lucia Auza contributed 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while sophomore Ashlyn Chlarson dominated the boards with 12 rebounds. Despite the loss, the Lady Monsters hold a strong 15-5 overall record and 6-3 in conference play.
The men's team took the court and delivered a stellar performance, controlling the game from start to finish. The Monsters secured a 74-64 victory over Cochise College, showcasing their dominance on both ends of the floor.
Sophomore Felix Smedjeback led the charge with an impressive 24 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Amari Carraway contributed a well-rounded effort with 16 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. With the win, the men's team improved to a notable 17-3 overall record and 7-2 in conference play.
Looking ahead, both teams are gearing up for another round of conference action at home this Saturday, January 25, against Central Arizona College. The women's game will tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come dressed for "Neon Night" and cheer on the Monsters as they continue their season.
