EAC Athletics Weekend Recap: Softball Shines, Basketball and Baseball Dominate
Eastern Arizona College teams had a strong showing over the weekend, with softball making a statement in Yuma, baseball securing key wins at home, and both basketball teams handling business on the court.
Softball Posts 3-1 Record in AWC Shootout
The Gila Monsters' softball team traveled to Yuma for the AWC Shootout Tournament, finishing the weekend with an impressive 3-1 record. EAC opened with a commanding 12-2 victory over Chandler-Gilbert, followed by a 7-3 win against College of Southern Idaho. The team battled through extra innings to edge out Snow 6-5 but fell just short in a defensive showdown against North Idaho College, losing 0-1.
Baseball Secures Series Win Over Luna Community College
The baseball team hosted Luna Community College for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, winning three out of four games. Friday saw a sweep, as the Monsters claimed 5-2 and 4-0 victories behind strong pitching performances. On Saturday, EAC dropped the first game 10-7 but bounced back in dominant fashion with an 11-0 shutout in seven innings to close out the weekend.
Basketball Defends Home Court
Both EAC basketball teams picked up crucial wins on Saturday, hosting College of Southern Nevada.
- The women's team controlled the game for a 71-58 victory.
- The men's team put on an offensive showcase, winning 96-83.
