
EAC vs AWC Weekend Recap and New NJCAA DI Rankings Results
Eastern Arizona College's baseball and basketball teams took on Arizona Western this past weekend, with mixed results across the board.
Baseball Splits Series Against Arizona Western
The Gila Monsters' baseball team hosted Arizona Western at home on Friday and Saturday, February 7-8. Friday's opener saw a strong performance, as EAC edged out a 3-2 victory in a tightly contested battle. However, Arizona Western responded on Saturday, handing EAC two tough losses, 13-1 and 12-4, to close out the series. The Gila Monsters will look to bounce back when they host Cochise College on February 14 and 15.
Basketball Battles Arizona Western at Home
Eastern Arizona's men's and women's basketball teams also took on Arizona Western on Saturday, February 8. The men's team delivered a strong performance, securing an 80-68 victory, while the women's team fell just short in a nail-biter, losing 50-51.
The women's team was led by sophomore Ashlynn Chlarson, who scored 12 points. Freshman Lucia Auza made a big impact with 9 points and 11 rebounds, while Sarah Deng facilitated the offense with 3 assists.
On the men's side, Kaden Ericksen led the charge with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Ryan Hunt added 11 points and 8 rebounds, while Amari Carraway orchestrated the offense with 9 assists and 9 points.
Both teams are set to hit the road on Tuesday, February 11, as they travel to Prescott to face Yavapai College.
Rankings Update & Upcoming Events
The latest NJCAA rankings were released on Monday, February 10, with EAC's women's basketball team ranked #19. The men's basketball team received votes, while men's golf landed at #20.
Looking ahead, the men's golf team will compete in the Paradise Valley Golf Tournament this week. Meanwhile, EAC softball will debut at home on Saturday, February 15, against Luna Community College.
