Bio

Steve Orme has been a dedicated Gila Monster since joining the EAC family in July of 2011. He managed all aspects of the Eastern Arizona College athletic training program primarily focusing on the football team. While working with football, Steve had the privilege of attending 4 bowl games with the team. The Gila Monsters were runners-up in the 2011 Top of the Mountain Bowl. In 2016 the football squads (O’Mera) were invited to the Salt City Bowl and came out victorious. For the second straight year, the team returned for another victory at the Salt City Bowl in 2017. Finally, in 2018, EAC football won the WSFL Championship and were runners-up in the Mississippi Bowl.

In the fall of 2014, Steve took on a more active role with the EAC basketball teams working both home and away games. In 2015 the women’s basketball team (McAdams) won the conference while visiting the national site for three years running, 2014-2016. He played an active part in the 2021 (Turner) and the 2023 (de Paulo) women’s basketball squads that won ACCAC Conference Championships and went on to nationals. He also saw success on the men’s basketball side while being part of the 2020 (Leitzke) conference championship team.

Steve has supported other Gila Monster teams from the sidelines, seeing many conference and regional championships for volleyball, softball, tennis, and golf. He has always been there to assist both the cheer and baseball teams. “I am looking forward to the addition of soccer in 2023 and the excitement it will bring to EAC,” said Steve Orme. 

Prior to EAC, Steve worked at Hanover College in Indiana and Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. He earned his Master of Education with a concentration in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He traveled all over the country with the Cavaliers wrestling team and worked with multiple other sports while there. He earned a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Brigham Young University. He worked with a variety of sports while there, including football, baseball, and men’s volleyball. Steve also had the opportunity to do an internship with the New York Jets.

Steve is certified through the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC) and is a Licensed Athletic Trainer with the State of Arizona. He is a certified instructor with the American Heart Association in CPR/AED.

Steve is originally from Springville Utah, he is an Eagle Scout and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is married to Laura Orme, and they have 3 children, Samantha, Gil, and Shaylee who are on their way to being proud Thatcher Eagles!
