EAC Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth in Colorado, Eyes National Tournament Berth
Loveland, CO – April 25, 2025 — The Eastern Arizona College men's golf team wrapped up a competitive run at the West District Tournament on Thursday, finishing fifth out of eight teams. With only the top four teams earning automatic bids to the NJCAA National Tournament in Kansas, the Monsters now wait to see if they will receive an at-large invitation when selections are announced on May 6.
The tournament, held in Loveland, Colorado, brought together eight of the best teams and 41 individual golfers from NJCAA Regions 1, 18, and 9. Eastern Arizona opened the event on a strong note, ending Round 1 in third place, just five strokes behind the second-place team. Round 2 was completed later that same day, with EAC moving to fourth place but still in the qualification zone.
Day 2 proved to be tightly contested. After the final round, the Monsters landed in fifth place, narrowly missing an automatic spot at nationals.
Despite not reaching their goal, Head Coach Cabezas was proud of the team's effort. "The guys played super solid all three rounds—the best I've seen them all year," Cabezas said.
Sophomore Fernando Jimenez led Eastern Arizona individually, finishing tied for 13th out of 41 golfers. Fellow sophomores Adrian Raya and Freshman Dharit Iemkanitchat also performed well, both tying for 16th.
The Monsters now turn their attention to May 6, hoping for a well-earned at-large bid to the national tournament.
