The Eastern Arizona College (EAC) women's soccer team advanced to the Region I Final after defeating Cochise College 3-1 in the semifinals on Wednesday, October 30. The Lady Monsters, who finished the season with a 10-3-2 record, extended their winning streak to four games.
EAC took control early, with Grace Abegg scoring the opening goal in the 26th minute, assisted by Maddie Haslam. The team held a 1-0 lead going into halftime. In the second half, Suika Shibutani, assisted by Ana Julia Carlessi, found the net to increase the lead to 2-0.
Cochise responded with a goal in the 56th minute, narrowing the score to 2-1. However, EAC quickly regained momentum. With an assist from Lorraine Oliveira, Kara Camp sealed the victory with a third goal, bringing the final score to 3-1.
Goalkeeper Ashley Zaragoza-Lopez had a standout performance, making five crucial saves to secure the win for EAC.
For the second consecutive year, the Lady Monsters will face Arizona Western in the Region I Final. The match is scheduled for November 2 at 7 p.m. in Yuma, AZ.
